Why have you been prescribed NovoMix® 30 and what is it?
Having diabetes means that managing your blood sugar levels is very important.
You and your healthcare professional have decided that NovoMix® 30, also known as insulin aspart, is the appropriate kind of insulin to help you do this.
In people without diabetes, the body naturally releases insulin into the bloodstream. This helps control blood sugar levels and keeps them consistent throughout the day. In people with diabetes, NovoMix® 30 helps the body stabilise blood sugar levels by working in a similar way.
NovoMix® 30 is a modern insulin (insulin analogue) and has both a rapid and intermediate blood sugar-lowering effect.
NovoMix® 30 is a ‘premix insulin’ that helps your body reduce your blood sugar level. It contains both a rapid-acting (30% soluble insulin aspart) and an intermediate-acting insulin (70% insulin aspart crystallised with protamine) in each injection. NovoMix® 30 will start to lower your blood sugar 10–20 minutes after you inject it, the maximum effect occurs between 1 and 4 hours after the injection, and the effect lasts for up to 24 hours. For the treatment of type 2 diabetes, NovoMix® 30 may be used in combination with tablets for diabetes and/or with injectable antidiabetic products.

We also have the NovoMix® 30 for PenFill® (a pre-filled insulin cartridge designed for use in a reusable insulin pen such as NovoPen® 6 or NovoPen Echo® Plus and FlexPen® insulin digital safety card available. This can be downloaded and printed at home and can be used to inform healthcare professionals throughout your treatment which medicine you or your child are taking, as well as to check if you or your child have been prescribed the correct medication. This safety card can be carried by you or your child with ease, due to its size.

Reporting of side effects
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in the Patient Information Leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk. Side effects should also be reported to Novo Nordisk Limited (Telephone Novo Nordisk Customer Care Centre 0800 023 2573). Calls may be monitored for training purposes. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
